Down on the Farm
At the end of the summer Board Member, Helen Nadel, organized a trip to the farm for Co-op
members and shoppers. Early on a Saturday morning, curious customers loaded into cars and vans and headed to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania farm country.
The agenda for the tour included three local farms, starting with Tom Forrest's Farm, one of our favorite local producers who frequently visits the Co-op to do sausage demos and tastings. Two other neighboring farms would be visited as well--an apple farm and a dairy/grass fed cattle farm.

Upon arriving, Tom led the Co-op tour group around his lovely farm, introduced everyone to his favorite goats and showed them the production process of his famous, homemade sauerkraut.

Tom introduced the Co-op crew to two of his farming friends down the street. Our group was able to tour an apple farm in full harvest as well as dairy farm that uses grass as feed rather than manufactured grains. Several cows were interviewed by the visitors. Many say that they really connected with these bovine beauties.
The climax of the day was a picnic lunch provided by Tom and his friends. Local faire was abundant, as were laughs and discussion about the sites of the day.
