Did you know that we carry artisanal breads from the finest bakers in the business? We order our breads, daily, from local bakeries, LeBus, Metropolitan, and Sweet Potato Bakery. You can find traditional Italian loaves as well as unique signature loaves such as the chocolate/cherry loaf made by Metropolitan. Samples of our breads are available frequently and we can even slice your bread for you while you shop.
Fresh bagels and rolls are also available at the Co-op. We carry Amoroso rolls, the traditional roll of Philadelphia. Your guests and family will thank you for using such soft, tasty rolls for their sandwiches!
For your sweet tooth, we have Amber Waves and My House Bakery pies, Classic and Sweet Pleasures cakes as well as a wonderful variety of cookies and muffins from Sweet Potato Bakery.
New Baker in Town...Big Sky Bread Company
We have a new baker to tell you about. Big Sky Bread Company operates out of the Wilmington DE area and these guys are serious about their products.
Big Sky products are shortcut-free, with no chemicals or hydrogenated oil. Customers note the brevity of ingredients on its labels. The one on the Italian peasant bread reads: "Flour, water, salt and yeast." The flour is stone-ground at a Montana mill.
Owner Patrick O'Neill says he does with ingredients, mixing, temperature and fermentation what mega-bakeries do with oil and chemicals. It takes a staff off 11. His Italian peasant bread ferments for eight hours.
We will be carrying Big Sky Bread two days a week: Saturdays and Wednesdays. Please call ahead if you would like a loaf reserved....this stuff has been flying off the shelves!
